It is common for people to keep pets in their homes. There are various reasons as to why these pets would suddenly become uncomfortable and one such reason is when they become infested with fleas. This may also pass on over to humans since they are bound to be found all over the house including places like the sofa or the carpet, even on beds. Now should this happen to you, then you need to find a way of getting rid of these fleas and there are several options for that. We suggest that you start with non toxic flea control methods which you can use in your bid to get rid of these pests from your home.

For starters, fleas tend to get attracted to dirty or dusty conditions. This allows them to settle down and even to lay their eggs and multiply. These conditions may be created when the pets are rarely cleaned or even when the household becomes dirty. It is important that you ensures that the environment around the pet is kept clean through frequent cleaning. You should ensure that the house is cleaned through washing and vacuuming on a regular basis. It is also important to ensure that you cleans up all areas including the dark crevices where the fleas lay their eggs. The cracks around the house should also be repaired. You can add salt into the water that is used for washing the house or even a bit of lemon juice which is known to have antiseptic qualities.

Cleanliness of the pets is also very important when it comes to getting rid of the fleas in a non toxic way. The pet should be cleaned on a regular basis so as to ensure that the fleas do not get breeding ground on the fur of the pet. The pet should be given a bath using a good flea shampoo or even by using lavender or eucalyptus extracts in the water that is used to bathe the pets.

Consider buying a flea comb so that you can comb through the fur when washing the pets so as to get rid of the fleas that may be stuck in the fur or those that may have laid their eggs in the fur of the pets. One can also add salt or vinegar to the water that is used to bathe the pet.

Do not forget to also clean the beddings that are used by the pets or even the various clothing that may be infested by the fleas. This can be done through the use of extreme temperatures which the fleas may find hard to tolerate. The beddings can be placed in a freezer overnight then washed thoroughly in the morning or the laundry can also be done using hot water because high temperatures are known to kill fleas.

The area that surrounds the homestead can also create a haven for fleas if it contains stagnant and dirty water. Long grass or rubbish can also provide breeding grounds. It is thus important that one gets rid of all the dirty conditions in the near environment.

These are some of the non toxic flea control methods that you can use in and around the home to ensure pets and people live in a safe enviroment.
